The Work Exchange Exhibition is up at The Clay Studio, and it looks great. I got some images shot of the work I have showing, and I'm pretty satisfied. It's a modified version of Ophelia on the Rocks called<i> Mitosis</i>. It came about by removing Octoboy from the top. The table looked really great by itself, and seemed finished. I'm really excited about Mitosis, as it seems like a concrete divergence from work I had been making. It's much more abstract, but still conveys a queer aura. I'm really excited by how the color and glitter resin turned out. The "nodes" fade perfectly into the color of the table, and the reflections from the glitter work to unify the different mediums and forms.</div>

The Oracle

Getting started on some new work. It s a combination of throwing and hand building using laguna's 20g clay. Its really tactile and easy to work with. I'm hoping to completely cover in fake flowers and glaze in semi transparent low fire glazes. I've recently decided that low fire clays are a better route for my work ad it allows me to decorate them in the colors appropriate for my work. This piece has a foot stand but it is not pictured. This will be at the bamf 2 show at the Brikhaus Art Space in Baltimore in early April. The opening is April 7th. See you there!<br />

Been a while since I posted last. In the last two months I've been quite distracted. Started working at the Ceramic Shop full time, got two peices into the Our Community show at The Clay Studio and applied for the Graduate program at Ohio State. Getting nervous waiting for their response.<br />

Here are some of the new slides I had taken of some recent work. Hoping to get back into making. I signed up to take a mold making class this coming spring session at the clay studio, and in April I have a group show in Baltimore at The Brickhaus Art Space, and the work exchange show in June. Gotta keep chugging.<br />

Did a little more work yesterday. I managed to trim the covers to the fruit dishes I'm making. But, unfortunately, I don't like them so they will just be glaze tests. On the other hand, the more I work the more I discover what I really want the work to look like.<br />

I took a break yesterday to start working on my figures. Instinct took over and somehow he ended up with Octopus arms. I really like it, and It oddly fits in with the rest of my work. I still want to use the imari gosu to draw cherry blossom flowers on parts of the surface, and luster the heart on the chest. I've decided to change the color of the roses from pink/blue to gold. It seemed... right :)<br />

It reminds me of the neurons shooting in a brain, and makes me want to not include the figure and rename it Into the Abyss (Inside the Brain of a Poof). This is the final of the 3 figurative proposals I have been working on. I have another 3 sets of illustrations for thrown work. I'll probably hit those up tomorrow. Beddies. Posting the work in progress helps show how much work really goes into applying for these residencies. Trying not to get my hopes up though, as everyone they have accepted has been over 40 in the last few years... and most have an MFA... I'm just going to turn my swag meter on high and submit anyway.

In preparation for show in September, I've begun <i>Into the Abyss (The Road to Glory)</i>. It's an LED Mirror based photographic sculpture... I built a foam heart, and I'm covering it in silk roses. On n the front a 6x6" two-way mirror will be inset, and on the back an 8x8" regular mirror will be attached. A photograph of me in costume will be attached to the mirror on the back, and the inside will be covered in small roses with LED lights in the centers. The result should be what appears to be the Dooman skipping through an endless tunnel of roses, since the mirrors reflecting each other should appear to be endless. I'm getting pretty excited about it. More on the show in another post sometime this week after I get more details.

I carved the foam of the head for the dooman, and originally i was going to fill the inconsistencies, but i think im going to play with them a bit before i do.<br />
