The Oracle

<div> Getting started on some new work. It s a combination of throwing and hand building using laguna's 20g clay. Its really tactile and easy to work with. I'm hoping to completely cover in fake flowers and glaze in semi transparent low fire glazes. I've recently decided that low fire clays are a better route for my work ad it allows me to decorate them in the colors appropriate for my work. This piece has a foot stand but it is not pictured. This will be at the bamf 2 show at the Brikhaus Art Space in Baltimore in early April. The opening is April 7th. I managed to trim the covers to the fruit dishes I'm making. But, unfortunately, I don't like them so they will just be glaze tests. On the other hand, the more I work the more I discover what I really want the work to look like.<br /> <br /> I took a break yesterday to start working on my figures. Instinct took over and somehow he ended up with Octopus arms. I really like it, and It oddly fits in with the rest of my work. I still want to use the imari gosu to draw cherry blossom flowers on parts of the surface, and luster the heart on the chest. I've decided to change the color of the roses from pink/blue to gold. Throwing Spree

<div><p>I had a pretty good throwing spree today. I went to the studio to teach the childrens saturday class and decided to stay to throw a little. I ended up throwing ten 1lb balls, seven 1.5lb balls, and three 2lb balls into some simple vessels... I'm excited to trim them and add embelishments. I'm hoping to be part of a woodfire in october so I'm preparing for that... If I keep this up I should have a pretty good variety of things to fire, and hopefully sell on etsy(seeing as my store is empty at the moment 'n' ). Sorry for the crappy picture, my phone has been acting up lately. I used Standards 257 porcelain for this group. Canopy Complete, New Tree Stalk, & Gifts

<div>So I've finished the canopy, it needs a few touchups here and there but otherwise its going very well.  I think im going to decorate it with some torn up pom poms and rhinestones. Super excited. I also threw the stalk/trunk of the next tree i'll be making. Its more losey-gosey than the others but im excited to see how that will play out.<br /> <br /> dont worry bout the lopsided canopy, i havent attached it yet, just scopin looks out...<br /> I also took the forms I threw and did some drawings on them. Can't show any closeups just yet because I don't want to ruin the gift. Studio Madness

<div><p>Today I not only managed to finish building the walrus but finished the base of the tree. I decorated the vessels I threw the other night with another layer, threw parts for another tree and made a gift for a family member. Im on fire. After Rupauls Drag Race tonight I'll be working on the canopy. The tree is almost halfway finished. The base of the tree needs one more coat of paint and the canopy for the tree has yet to be made. After I finish the canopy ill begin making the base and embroidering the faces of all the flowers. I also have to start making the walrus(in clay). It should be a big ball of fun. I haven't been in the studio as much lately, since I've been working at home, and I really need to get back in the swing of things. Threw 6 small porcelain cups/tumblers, and some bowls. Haven't decided how to decorate the surface yet but I think im gonna have a bit more fun with these. I saw a bubbly looking mold in the school at the studio, and I decided id make some trays. I originally intended to throw stands for them, but after starting to make them, I felt the need to just pinch them closed and. Turn them into abstract leaves. They are rather crude, and I didn't erase any marks made by my hands as I joined the parts of each slab. Im excited to see how they turn out, especially since I coated them in some copper carbonate. They should react in interesting ways with the glazes on top.<br />

I have a few in a test kiln ggetting a 2nd layer of glaze and based off what happens there I might decorate these with another coat of glaze. They kinda look like candy, which I like. It adds a layer of playfulness. The yellow/caramel dog head fell over, but it provides a good oportunity for some fun embelishments. I shall call it, "the dead bitch". <br /><br>(n_n)y<br />

These were fired in the test kiln so I could try out another glaze. Im loving the color on these ones so I might do a few more with this key lime glaze.
