The Oracle

Getting started on some new work. It s a combination of throwing and hand building using laguna's 20g clay. Its really tactile and easy to work with. I'm hoping to completely cover in fake flowers and glaze in semi transparent low fire glazes. I've recently decided that low fire clays are a better route for my work ad it allows me to decorate them in the colors appropriate for my work. This piece has a foot stand but it is not pictured. This will be at the bamf 2 show at the Brikhaus Art Space in Baltimore in early April. The opening is April 7th. See you there!<br />

Almost finished with Into the Abyss (The Road to Glory), just need to paste in the photo and it is all set to go. It reminds me of the neurons shooting in a brain, and makes me want to not include the figure and rename it Into the Abyss (Inside the Brain of a Poof). This is the final of the 3 figurative proposals I have been working on. I have another 3 sets of illustrations for thrown work. I'll probably hit those up tomorrow. Beddies. Posting the work in progress helps show how much work really goes into applying for these residencies. Trying not to get my hopes up though, as everyone they have accepted has been over 40 in the last few years... and most have an MFA... I'm just going to turn my swag meter on high and submit anyway.

Here are a few tattoos, I've been commissioned to do. I was asked to do a floral spread representing a family with 11 children. It has 5 types of flowers, representing the 5 girls, and 6 honey bees (the state bug of Arkansas) to represent the Boys. Another was a design for a man with a still-born brother. He wanted him represented by a baby resting with a White Siberian Tiger. And the last is a Shel Silverstein design. The woman wanted a  modified drawing to go on her back, so I took his drawing <i>The Sidewalk Ends</i> and ad it a floating sidewalk.

I convinced her to up a little bit of the green to help make the pink pop, and this is what I've come up with and re-proposed. Today has been lots of fun... off to bed! Took some early photos, and started editing a bit. This is the wooden heart, with roses, mounted on the silk and vintage fabric, and surrounded by felt dots I cut out. This is just a cropped section of the image, as I don't want to spoil the final unveil. I've been working all day so I had to share at least this much. More coming tomorrow, and hopefully finished photo by the end of the week. I'm loving the glow it has so far, the majority is good lighting with help from a few simple blur and screen filters. Trying to add as many layers of design as possible.

Finally got around to putting the polka dots on the heart prop for Rise of the Dooman. Now I'll be working on the backdrop, using the same blue vintage fabric from Trip to your heart as the main spread but adding on sewn pink hearts. It's turning out well, so i'm going to try to steam through the rest of this before the end of the week. Wish me luck!
